Unheilig is my sensational discovery of this year. I know the band excist for twelve years now, but until March of this year I never had heard of this German band before. Within months I had all their albums and in June we visited the openings concert of the Lichter der Stadt Tour.


And now they released Lichter der Stadt / Live, shot and recorded in the Rhein Energie Stadion in Cologne before an audience of 30,000 people. Compared to the concert in Meppen the stage looks more slicker. The luxe box is a real treasury, with the concert on double cd, on dvd and a second dvd with behind the stage scenes.

The images are great and the spectator is drawn in the concert. Overviews are followed by close-ups of band and crowd, which turns this registration not only into a document for the public but the band as well. The sound is excellent and the bombast, like in Grosse Freiheit or the Rammstein alike songs Herzwerk,, Nachtschicht, Feuerland, Eisenmann, Abwärts, and the specially, fot this tour, written song Auf Ewig occasionally blow out of the speakers. The heavy songs are well balanced with the ballads like Unstrblich, Ein grosses Leben and Geboren um zu leben (with Lucky kids and Köln Jugendchor Ste. Stephan). Halfway the concert Andreas Bourani shows up to sing the single Wie wir waren with Der Graf. The atmosphere of the show and the crowd overwhelms him which the spectator cna see through his face and bodylanguage. another single So wie du warst is done with a male voice choir., while the acoustic version of Ein guter Weg gets up to the nines with a children percussion group.

Lichter der Stadt / Live has become a beautiful document, which can be obtained in several versions. From a single best of... CD to a luxury box containing double CD, double DVD and a photobook. The latter contains the full concert on cd, dvd and a second dvd with behind the stage scenes.

2012 for Unheilg was a successful year and to endorse this success, Lichter der Stadt gets a Winter edition release with bonustracks, f.e. Stark (2012 version) and Auf Ewig (studio version), and a complete acoustic concert recorded by NRW Lokalradio.

A Flock Of Seagulls

Being a fan for many many years I was really surprised the band decided finally, after 25 years, to do an European tour again. I am aware of the fact that it's only Mike Score nowadays who's left of the old line-up. Still I like to see them, because back in 1984 I was unable to visit the famous Noorderligt at Tilburg. On 09-09-09 A Flock Of Seagulls will play the well known Paradiso theatre in Amsterdam. I became an instant fan of the four when I heard I Ran on the radio. But it was Wishing (if I had a photograph of you) which really turned me into AFOS. Through the years I was able to track down most of their vynil releases. And of course the CD's followed as well. I even became a member of the Airborne Division. With the internet things changed and in 1996 I was able to get a CDR copy of most of the b-sides and rare recordings of AFOS ripped from vynil, which I like to share with you.
