Pre review The Best Of Vol. 2: Pures Gold / Rares Gold of Unheilig
I was there last year on the tenth of September at the Abschiedskonzert (Farewell Concert) of Unheilig at the RheinEnergieStadion in Coulogne. To be honest, for sure, this was not the best concert of Der Graf I witnessed in the past years since our discovery of the band in March 2012, but it was very emotional.
With the release of Von Mensch zu Mensch some highlights appeared on the accompanied bonus dvd of the limited Fanedition. Since then fans kept asking the band to release the concert as a proper dvd/blu-ray. At the end for the Unheilig team this turned out to be a starting point for a new release of the band.
And so on the 6th of October a new compilation album will see the light of day. The album The Best Of Vol. 2: Pures Gold will be released in three different formats as one cd, double cd and a Limited Fanedition, containing the double cd plus a double dvd and a blu-ray of the Abschiedskonzert.
The first cd, Pures Gold, contains mainly the well known tracks, singles and concert favourites, from the last four studio albums and the MTV Unplugged album. The titletrack, Geboren um zu leben, Für immer and Unter deiner Flagge from Große Freiheit. The titletrack, a reworked Zeitreise, this time featuring The Dark Tenor, and Eisenmann from Lichter der Stadt. Zeit zu gehen, Wie in guten alten Zeiten, Glück auf das Leben and Mein Berg from Gipfelstürmer. Mein Stern and Für mich solls rote Rosen regnen from MTV Unplugged and Mein Leben ist die Freiheit, Einer von Millionen and the titletrack from Von Mensch zu Mensch. The cd is finalized with a reworked version of Der Himmel über mir (from the single Astronaut) and the new songs Lass uns tanzen and Sterne Hoch (again with The Black Tenor).
The body second cd, Rares Gold, is formed by a bunch of tracks firstly released on the Gipfelkreuz CD. This was a cd available for fans who visited the Gipfelstürmer tour This is supplemented with a reworked version of Sonnentag (from Moderne Zeiten), die Lebenen und die Totenfrom the single Lichter der Stadt, Nachtschicht from the single So wie du warst, Das Leben ist meine Religion from the single Zeit zu gehen, Schenk mir ein Wunder from the enhanced version of Große Freiheit, Wo bist du (probably a reworked version of the track Where Are You of Licky), Ein letztes Mal from Von Mensch zu Mensch and the new tracks Der erste Schnee and Lass uns tanzen (instrumental).
The new tracks were written during the Zeit zu gehen Tour. At first not with Unheilig in mind but for a, yet not mentioned, other singer. So for sure it is with a great certain that Der Graf won't leave the music industry. He has started working behind the scene as a song writer for others.
And this brings us to the treat featured in the Limited FanEdition: the dvd and blu-ray release of the farewell concert at Cologne. This registration features all: a great bunch of songs (21 in total), emotion, teardrops, audience anticipation time and an overwhelmed and humbled Der Graf.
Again I can only say that Der Graf will treat his fans on a nice package of great music and fine video footage. Of course I don't have an inside yet on the new songs, and I am anxious about the reworked songs featured on the audio cd's. But the registration of the Farewell Concert will be a much appreciated present of an artists who choose to stop on the peak of his career.
In a later stage, after the release of this album, I will go into it in greater detail.
