Enjoy the ride

Nik Kershaw played the Boerderij in Zoetermeer on 28 November 2011. To be honest this concert, which featured most of the set seen in Mai 2009 at Zeche in Bochum, was so much better compared to that night in Germany one and a half years ago.

It all started with the good sound, the good atmosphere and the good voice of Nik, who also got the laughers on his hand when introducing or explaining the songs. The keyboards were well balanced into the sound, and again the atmosphere on stage and in the crowd was marvelous.

The opener Wide Boy made the standard of the evening. A good voice and well balanced instruments and a band that enjoyed to play for a crowd of 250. Already confinced of the crowd as a second in the setlist Nik threw in a new song called Enjoy The Ride. A nice uptempo song with the Kershaw trademark. During the concert two new ones would follow; You're The Best, a tribute to his wife, and Rock Of Ages, a song about growing older but still loving the music and the party. The new songs were received with a lot of enthusiasm.

But of course the oldies received the most cheer of the crowd and become real sing-alongs. The almost Big Country alike guitar double in The Riddle was a highlight, and for me it was great to hear Get Up again, and played in combination with Bogart. Also the Chesney Hawkes hitsingle The One And Only, written by Nik Kersaw, was played in the Kershaw trademark and the crowd anticipated in the choruses. After sixteen songs with hits, semi-hits and great albumtracks Wouldn't It Be Good ended the regular setlist.

After a couple of minutes Nik returned alone with guitar to play some acoustic songs. Fiction and Oh You Beautiful Thing which are both played in the same version on his last album No Thrills, got a good response. And when the band joined again they played Loud, Confident & Wrong. Niks answer to the worst president of the US George Bush jr., which when introduced was met with a lot of laughter from the crowd. The band ended the show with two old favourites Human Racing and I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me.

After a show of nearly two hours the band got a great applause and with a "we love you" Nik and band left the stage. A great performance, a well balanced setlist and a great sound and good voice. One of the best shows I attended too this year.
